Who are we?

Forestpin (Pvt) Ltd is a startup specialized in developing enterprise data analytics applications. Analytics applications generally use complex mathematical computations and have to traverse through massive amounts of transactional records. Our vision is to combine mathematical, programming and data visualization skills to develop easy to use analytics applications that work at the pace of business.

Ransith Fernando

Ransith Fernando is a co-founder and Managing Director of Forestpin. Prior to Forestpin he managed a fifty member IT business applications team for a US$ Billion plus company running SAP systems in Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia. He has around 25 years of experience in the IT field including management, offshore software development and training.

He has been a speaker, panelist, moderator at IT events in Sri Lanka, India and Hong Kong. Ransith is also actively involved with the IT industry of Sri Lanka. He also served as a member of the expert panel in selecting grantees for Innovation Awards under ICBP (ICT capacity building program) implemented by the ICTA agency of Sri Lanka in 2008. Is regular member of the panel of judges for the National Best Quality Software Awards in Sri Lanka.

Ransith holds a Computer Science Degree from the University of Colombo, MBA from the University of Moratuwa and further executive education in information technology at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Ransith lives with his wife in Colombo. In his spare time Ransith is an avid chess player.

Shazmin Imrana

Having worked both in marketing and in finance, Shazmin brings a rainbow of talent to the team. She has first hand worked with the Group Risk and Assurance team at MAS Capital in her capacity as the Personal Assistant to the Group Finance Director. It is her experience in continuously improving controls and resolving related issues as well as managing senior management expectations that is significant. This is complemented by Shazmin’s marketing flare from facilitating the re-branding of Jetwing Hotels & Travels back in 2011 to designing and promoting signature culinary tours for Sri Lanka Tailormade, the luxury travel arm of Jetwing Travels.

Shazmin has a strong foundation with a MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Marketing (PIM-USJ) and a bachelors from the University of Nottingham.

Though Shazmin is based in Colombo, she enjoys being away from city. In particular, she enjoys the outdoors from jogging to hiking.

Dilanke Hettiaratchi

Dilanke Hettiaratchchi is a co-founder and Director of Forestpin. Before joining Forestpin he managed SAP BI, SAP HANA teams at a US$ Billion plus manufacturing company. He has extensive experience in Business Analytics, Management Reporting, Project Implementation, SAP HANA, SAP BI, SAP Portals and EDI.

Dilanke holds a degree in Applied computing from the Northumbria University and had attended executive education at the Harvard Business School. Dilanke is responsible for project delivery at Forestpin.

Dilanke lives in Colombo with his wife and son. During his spare time, he works bringing to life Lamps designed by his wife.

Chethiya Abeysinghe

Chethiya Abeysinghe is a co-founder of Forestpin. His background is in hardcore programming, mathematics, algorithms and enterprise integration and SOA. He graduated from University of Moratuwa and prior to forming Forestpin he has worked as a Software Engineer implementing SOA systems in Europe. His main role at Forestpin is to program and design the software and build it for different enterprise platforms. His passion is evident as he has represented Sri Lanka at International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and he was one of the youngest medalists in 2002. He has won 1 Silver and 5 Bronze medals at IOI in 6 consecutive years. In addition, he has also won other competitions such as IEEEXtreme.

Chethiya lives with his wife in Kurunegala. During his spare time he loves hacking out mobile technologies and judges global programming competitions. He also plays table tennis and takes long road trips.

Varuna Jayasiri

A programmer with an accounting and mathematics background, Varuna Jayasiri is a co-founder of the start-up Forestpin. He plays a key role in product design and programming. Varuna has a first class in electronics engineering from the University of Moratuwa and is also a CIMA passed finalist. Prior to forming Forestpin he has worked in the Silicon Valley at Pagebites Inc., a startup formed by ex google directors. He has represented Sri Lanka at International Olympiad in Informatics in USA (Silver) 2003, Greece (Gold) 2004, Mexico (Silver) 2006.

His current interests are "Forensic Analytics" and how real-time analytics, statistical methods and machine learning can be used in Forensic Analytics and Fraud detection. Varuna firmly believes that fraud prevention can be programmed by simulating the intelligence of accountants and then running real-time tests against empirical data. He is a holder of US patent "Synchronized processes communicating over a wide area network and method" (US 20110314103 A1).

Varuna lives with his wife in Colombo. During his spare time he is does research on Computer Vision at University of Moratuwa, plays tennis and helps coach the national team in programming for the International Olympiad in Informatics.

Interns

Chirath Hettiarachchi

2016

Chirath is an Engineering undergraduate at University of Moratuwa following Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. He is also a CIMA Passed Finalist and a CIMA Sri Lankan Prize Winner for Performance Management.

He is an active Rotaractor and currently serves as the Vice President Professional Development at Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa. He is also interested in playing chess, and is an International Rated Chess player.

He lives in Kottawa and during his leisure time he develops innovative IoT projects, plays the guitar and involves in music.

Pulasthi Ekanayake

2016

Pulasthi is a self-taught programmer and designer. He has gained admission to the University of Moratuwa to follow a BSc in Electronics Engineering. In parallel he is studying accounting and is at the CIMA advanced Diploma in Management Accounting stage.

Pulasthi is interested in programming, art. He plays Basketball and Chess in his spare time. He lives in Rajagiriya. Sri Lanka

Past Interns

Yaqiao Deng

2016

Yaqiao is an engineering student in energy. She completed her undergraduate study in Zhejiang University in China (2014) and master degree in University of Cambridge in UK (2015). She will pursue her second master of Management of Technology at EPFL in Switzerland (2016).

She has gained adequate marketing and selling skills in the past internships. Yaqiao currently works as software trainer and pre-sale assistant at Forestpin. She lives in Kelaniya.

During her spare time, she loves learning foreign languages, playing sports and taking long road trips.

Roshnal Lihinikadu

2014 - 2015

Roshnal Lihinikadu is a programmer with an algorithmic and mobile development background. He's also a Sun certified Java programmer (SCJP) and an Oracle certified mobile application developer (OCMAD), currently doing BCS Level 5.

He was the runner-up in Oracle ThinkQuest, worldwide application development category (2012) held in California, USA. And he has represented Sri Lanka at the International Olympiad in Informatics in Australia (2013), Taiwan (2014), and Kazakhstan(2015).

Roshnal currently works as a growth hacker at Forestpin. During his spare time, he's learning languages, mathematics, bioinformatics, algorithmic programming, and lives in Kiribathgoda.

Nisal Periyapperuma

2014 - 2015

Nisal is a programmer, with an algorithmic and web development background. He's also interested in designing clean user interfaces and providing a smooth experience for the users. He has represented Sri Lanka at the International Olympiad in Informatics in Australia (2013),Taiwan (2014), and Kazakhstan(2015).

Nisal currently works as a growth hacker at Forestpin. He lives in Pannipitiya and during his spare time he's learning about web technologies, algorithms and programming languages, he also loves playing the guitar and going for runs.
